Studies of the effect of electromagnetic body forces on the hydrodynamic pattern of the flow around bodies propelled by internal sources of electromagnetic fields have become of interest in connection with the design of electromagnetic propulsion systems for submarines and surfaces vessels. Such studies for the case of a sphere as an example were done for induction and conduction electromagnetic field sources. The variation problem for determining the optimum electrical and magnetic potentials was formulated and some simplified problems were solved.
