Foto: Experimental Liquid Metal Battery ©Copyright: Flüssigmetallbatterie Abteilung MagnetohydrodynamikLiquid Metal Batteries feature molten salts as electrolytes (at temperatures between 200 °C and 600 °C).
For the long-term operation of the batteries, stability of the molten salt mixture in contact with the anode has to be ensured.
The task is to measure the long-term change in constituents of molten salt mixtures. Ion chromatography is the favored method. For this measurement technique, the following steps shall be evaluated and demonstrated at certain molten salt mixtures: sample preparation, calibration of equipment, measurement and analysis.
This task can be done as part of a practical training or as a final thesis.
