VOF simulation of bubble formation using OpenFoam (Id 231)

No current offer!

The formation of gas bubbles by submerged needles or orifices is of great importance for diverse industrial applications, because it influences the bubble size and thereby bubble rise velocity. To optimize the industrial process, the fundamental physics of the bubble formation should be understood. However, some of the fundamental knowledge is still lacking. The goal of this work is to investigate the bubble formation, growth and departure from a submerged orifice using the volume of fluid (VOF) method in OpenFoam. The main tasks include:

  • Simulation of the bubble formation and departure process using interFoam
  • Acquiring the parameters of interest, e.g. bubble size, shape and detachment frequency, from the simulation results by writing post-processing scripts
  • Analyse and document simulation results
