Postdoc (f/m/d) / Scientific Assistant (f/m/d) Helmholtz AI Machine Learning Scientist

The Department of Information Services and Computing is the service, consultation and coordination centre for the Information Infrastructure of the HZDR.

The Department of Computational Science is looking for a Postdoc (f/m/d) / Scientific Assistant (f/m/d) Helmholtz AI Machine Learning Scientist. 

Your tasks

  • Creation, training, testing and comparison of modern Foundational models for the analysis of hyperspectral data (at best in a team with other partners in Saxony and all of Germany)
  • Research on current topics of image analysis or computer vision and generative AI with multi-modal data
  • Creation of reusable, reproducible and open tools for training, evaluation and inference of foundational models in the context of observation (mainly based on transformer architectures)

Your profile

  • Completed university studies (Master/PhD) in natural sciences, mathematics, earth and environment related fields or computer science (any other related field with a strong reference to the topic is also possible)
  • Relevant professional experience in the specified area
  • Proven ML/DL expertise and project contributions (publication in peer reviewed journals, contributions to open source projects or conferences is considered a bonus)
  • Good understanding of mathematical and algorithmic concepts such as transformer based based classification and regression (segmentation or domain adaptation)
  • Basic understanding of reproducible science and the principles for Open Science
  • Programming experience in Python
  • Experience with ML/DL APIs, libraries and frameworks such as pytorch, scikit-learn (experiences with transformers, diffusers are considered a bonus)
  • Self-motivation, Teamwork skills, tolerant and open character
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
