This year, the Annual Conference on Optical Nanospectroscopy, organized within the frame of the COST Action MP1302 on Nanospectroscopy, was held in Lisbon, Portugal from March 28 – 31, 2017. Responsible for the organization was the HZDR guest researcher Dr.Teresa I. Madeira at the Institute of Ion Beam Physics and Materials Research.
Usually the conference covers themes handled by the working groups of this COST Action: Nanosystem design & nanofabrication, physical processes & theoretical modelling, and spectroscopy techniques highlights & applications in the optical range. This year the same topics were extend to the X-ray range and to the use of ion beams for material processing, modification and characterization. Two invited speakers from the Institute of Ion Beam Physics and Materials Research, Dr. Arkady Krasheninnikov and Dr. Richard Wilhelm, presented their work concerning theoretical and experimental research using ion beams.
The conference had an attendance of almost 130 researchers from all over Europe, plus Brazil, Turkey and Israel, with a strong participation of institutions from Germany. The major outcome of these meetings is multidisciplinary European training and networking. Thus, our particular interest is the use of the HZDR Ion Beam Center (IBC) for materials research. The Lisbon conference was successful in triggering the interest of some participants to use our facilities.
In what concerns the COST Action itself, already in its extension period until November 2017 it is on the way to be resubmitted for another four years. Dr. Teresa I. Madeira was invited to coordinate the task force that will be engaged in the preparation and resubmission of a possible follow-up proposal to the current COST Action.
Now the Action comprises about 200 members and is open for new membership proposals. For further information on this project and all activities developed within its frame, please refer to the following link:
