Separator

The separator arranged vertically divides the water/steam mixture escaped from the electrical heater into steam and water phases. It consists of a cylindrical tank with plane bottoms, a length of 2.5 m and an inner diameter of 0.5 m. Its volume is 0.4 m³. The empty weight of the separator amounts about 1.2 t. The separator is isolated with some aluminium hidden ISOVER mats covered with galvanized tin.

The water/steam mixture enters the separator through a tube arranged tangentially in the upper plenum. Steam is diverted upwards by a round dipping tube and now available for the execution of the experiments.

The dipping tube is equipped with a water guide rail at the steam entry. This prevents that draining water at the dipping tube is carried away with steam. The water is sucked by the circulating pump via an outlet situated at the bottom and recirculated to the electrical heater. For the refraction of the spin, a Vortex-Breaker is installed in the lower plenum of the separator.
