The CYCLONE 18/9 & 10/5 USER COMMUNITY

A Collaboration Between PET Cyclotron Facilities

The aims of the community:

To come in close contact with all other CYCLONE 18/9 and CYCLONE 10/5 users around the world
To have competent partners for discussions
To change experience of operation and maintenance of the CYCLONE 18/9 and CYCLONE 10/5 and the corresponding chemistry

The forum of the community:

Biennial workshops are the forum of the community
The workshops go the round
The workshops include short presentations of the facilities, a visit of the organizing facility, presentation of new developments of IBA, the manufacturer of the CYCLONE 18/9 and CYCLONE 10/5
Most of the time is dedicated to discussions about the operation and maintenance of our cyclotrons and the corresponding chemistry

The history:

In November 1994 Stephan Preusche, head of the Rossendorf PET cyclotron CYCLONE 18/9 unit worked two weeks together with his Canadian colleagues at the CYCLONE 18/9 of the Montreal Neurological Institute. He felt that it would be necessary and very helpful to come in close contact to all other CYCLONE 18/9 users. Stephan presented his idea of the foundation of a world wide "CYCLONE 18/9 USER COMMUNITY" the Canadian colleagues and he went down well. Back home he elaborated and pursued the idea of establishing a forum for all CYCLONE 18/9 users and all CYCLONE 18/9 facilities around the world agreed. And so did IBA, the manufacturer of the PET cyclotrons CYCLONE 18/9.
It was decided on the first workshop to involve the CYCLONE 10/5 facilities because the technique of both types of cyclotrons is very similar.
