This is an overview of the most important events in 2007.

Further education for teachers 2007
Lehrerfortbildung 2006 "Imaging techniques" was the topic of the annual further education day for teachers on 16 February 2007. Teachers were informed about the latest developments in research by presentations on various kinds of microscopes and their applications as well as on the usage of tomography in medicine and technology. Thereafter, guided tours through the PET Centre and the High-Magnetic Field Laboratory gave a practical insight.
Colloquium in honour of Prof. Wolf Häfele

On 17 April 2007 a colloquium in honour of Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Wolf Häfele was organised by the FZD and the Verein für Kernverfahrenstechnik und Analytik Rossendorf e.V. (VKTA) celebrating his 80th birthday. Immediately after the downfall of the German Democratic Republic Prof. Häfele was the Scientific Director of the Forschungszentrum Rossendorf, laying the foundations for today's focus of FZD.
Open House Day 2007
Tag des offenen Labors 2007 On 12 May 2007 the Forschungszentrum Dresden-Rossendorf opened its laboratories for the public and again attracted lots of interested visitors. Scientists gave an insight into the exciting world of materials, safety, and cancer research.
Laying of the foundation stone
Grundsteinlegung Eingangsgebäude On 31 May 2007 the foundation stone was laid for the new entrance building of the FZD. The building will be 150 m long and will run parallel to Bundesstraße 6. Thus, the Forschungszentrum opens it's doors to the public for the first time in 51-year-history.

After it's construction is finished, which is planned for the end of 2008, the building will combine many different functions: It will be the seat of the Department Facility Management as well as logistics, it will be connected with a newly designed conference and visitors centre, and it will contain offices for the Board of Directors and the Support Staff. At the same time, the building is to give the FZD a new and modern face.

Dresden Long Night of Sciences 2007

LaNa 2007

The 5. Dresdner Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften (Long Night of Sciences) took place on 29 June 2007 from 6 pm until 1 am in the morning. The FZD again participated in the main lecture hall building of Technische Universität Dresden. Given the motto "From the nano world to the cosmos: magnetic fields, radiation, atoms and nuclei" ("Von der Nanowelt zum Kosmos: Magnetfelder, Strahlen, Atome und Kerne") presentations as well as information and experimental stands informed about for example, news from nano technology and optoelectronics, men and radiation or tomography in technology. In addition, there was a programme for children and youth.

Schülerpreise Physik 2007 - Preisverleihung

In Saxony, high school students can improve their "Abitur" (National Senior Certificate) results by participating in an extracurricular academic activity, namely, federal students competition or by writing an academic paper. In the Free State of Saxony students are awarded for the best extracurricular activities in physics. Last year, the award ceremony took place at FZD on 21 September 2007. Students from Dresden, Freiberg, Chemnitz, Leipzig and Werdau received the five top prizes. Altogether 22 students were awarded for their excellent physics projects. The prizes were sponsored by Qimonda Dresden, Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft (DPG), Wilhelm und Else Heraeus-Stiftung, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and FZD, ranging from prize money to guided tours through the FZD.
