    CARE/PHIN was a Joint Research Activity within the sixth Framework Programme of the EC from 2004 to 2008. FZD was involved in the Joint Research Activity "Photoinjector"

Activities:

 
Care-Photokathode     Within the work package "charge production" a preparation laboratory was established at the ELBE department of FZD. The equipment for the production of cesium telluride photocathodes was developed and built. The fabrication technology was adopted from the partner institutes CERN and University of Twente. In collaboration, basic knowledge and fabrication technology were improved as well as tests and comparative studies were carried out with the aim to improve quantum efficiency and live time.

The workpackage "gun and beam dynamics" was devoted to the numerical simulation of rf and beam dynamical aspects in photo injectors and the development of new electron sources. At FZD the new superconducting rf photoelectron gun for the ELBE accelerator was designed, constructed and commissioned.
