The second annual meeting of the Helmholtz Virtual Institute “Functional Nanomaterials for Multimodality Cancer Imaging” (NanoTracking) was held in Heidelberg, Germany from October 6-8, 2013. PhD students, post docs and their principle investigators of the cooperating scientific groups reported on the scientific progress achieved within the last year. Together with the scientific advisory committee represented by Sylvia S. Jurisson, Alison Elder and Roger Alberto, results, ideas, problems as well as further investigations were discussed constructively, which led to an active exchange of ideas and experiences.

Furthermore, lectures and talks were given by Chris Orvig (Department of Chemistry of the University of British Columbia), Alison Elder (School of Medicine and Dentistry of the University of Rochester Medical Center), Sylvia S. Jurisson (Department of Chemistry of the University of Missouri-Columbia), Roger Alberto (Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the University of Zürich), and Michael Bachmann (Institute of Radiopharmaceutical Cancer Research, Radioimmunology, HZDR). Like at the previous annual meeting, the members of the Helmholtz Virtual Institute “NanoTracking” used the time in Heidelberg for fruitful discussions and to intensify the personal relationships within and between the different collaborating groups.
