The Summer Student Program takes place each year at the HZDR in August and September. Stemming from thirteen countries, sixteen young scientists will be guests this year for an eight week stay. They come from universities in India, Great Britain, Poland, Kazakhstan, Germany, the Czech Republic, Italy, Portugal, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, the Ukraine and the United States.

In addition to getting to know a large international research center and working under guidance on their own scientific projects, the program offers public lectures on different topics addressed at the HZDR. The highlight is the student research project presentations during a public event to take place on September 5th, 2017.

The program, in its sixth year, is a significant component in supporting emerging scientists. It is intended to provide participants with guidance in searching for possible topics in their research and/or master’s projects as well as for their subsequent doctoral work.

The students were chosen by a scientific jury based on their C.V.s, past scientific endeavors and a recommendation letter. The minimum requirement is a bachelor’s or other undergraduate degree.
