Abstract:

Copper and proton adsorption on gibbsite were determined at differing experimental conditions. The pHzpc of gibbsite was 8.70. As determined by the basic Stern-layer model (BSM), the optimized binding constants of electrolytic ions were KNa=−0.31 and KNO3=7.94. These parameters were coupled with the charge-distribution multi-site ion complexation (CD-MUSIC) model in quantifying copper adsorption by following reaction stoichiometry.

(>AlOH−½)2 + Cu2+ = [(>AlOH)2zCuw]+1   logK = 7.15 ± 0.7
