CONTRIBUTION OF GAMMA IRRADIATION TO MATERIAL DAMAGE AT VVER PRESSURE VESSELS
CONTRIBUTION OF GAMMA IRRADIATION TO MATERIAL DAMAGE AT VVER PRESSURE VESSELS
Brodkin, E.; Egorov, A.; Zaritsky, S.; Böhmer, B.
Neutron and gamma ray spectra at the VVER reactor pressure vessel (RPV) were calculated using the discrete ordinates method. Assessments of dpa and freely-migrating defect (FMD) rates based on these spectra are presented. It was found that the gamma fractions of the total dpa rate at the VVER-440 and VVER-1000 RPV constitute 1.4% and 4.2% correspondingly. Gamma fractions of 29 and 57% were obtained for the corresponding total FMD rates.
Keywords: neutron-gamma transport calculations; reactor pressure vessel; material damage; neutron and gamma flux spectra; dpa; freely-migrating defect; FMD rate
