IT-Infrastructure

The division of IT Infrastructure is part of the department of Information Services and Computing and hence responsible for design, implementation and operation of the basic information technologies at HZDR.

Main task of IT Infrastructure is to provide a highly available data network and servers for the services provided by the department of Information Services and Computing to all users of the institutes, central departments and also to external users.

Core tasks of the division of IT Infrastructure include:

• Planning, implementation and operation of the data network at HZDR, i.e. wired network and Wireless LAN, IP management, routing
• Provision of the infrastructure for voice and fax communication, incl. IP phones
• Operation of central servers (UNIX, Linux, Windows) for core IT services such as e-mail, www, databases
• Provision of the virtual server environment and server-based applications (Citrix)
• Operation of central computational resources including high-performance computing (Linux cluster, HPC storage)
• Operation of central fileservers, backup and archiving of data
• User support in the area of high-performance computing, data handling, planning and realization of network-specific tasks in scientific experiments and facilities
• Scientific seminar Hardware and Numerics
