The ThUL School in Actinide Chemistry

19th to 23rd of September 2016 in Dresden

About the School

The Theoretical UserLab  was a part of ACTINET-I3 responsible for fostering the interaction between experimental and computational actinide chemistry and physics.

After the success of our Spring school in 2012, a Winter school in 2013, a Summer school in 2014 and an Autumn school in 2015, we are proud to announce the next installment: The 2016 ThUL school in theoretical actinide chemistry. It will be held from the 19.09.-23.09. 2016 in Dresden, Germany!

The school is aimed at PhD students or postdocs in the area of actinide chemistry. Some prior knowledge of computational chemistry would of course be beneficial. The language of the school is English.

Thanks to generous support from HZDR-IRE, the school itself is free of charge. The participants are expected to pay for accommodation and for the trip to Dresden. We have reserved rooms at the Gewandhaus hotel in Dresden (http://www.gewandhaus-hotel.de/). The special rate we have got is 75 EUR per night including breakfast (using the key word "ThUL").

The school will consist of lectures and exercises. The exercises are also hands on training sessions in computational chemistry. We will use free software or demo versions of commercial software, so please bring your own laptop, we will help you install the programs and teach you how to use them!

In 2013 to 2015 we had very successful ThUL schools in theoretical actinide chemistry. We had 50 participants from all over Europe. The schools were very popular with the participants. And we sincerely hope that we can make the 2016 school as interesting as the last ones!

The previous schools were held in Lille (2006) and in Cadarache (2007). After a pause we had a school in 2012 which was held in Karlsruhe Germany from the 26.3.-30.3. We had more than 20 participants from all over Europe. The feedback we got from our students was very positive and we decided to hold the school again on a yearly basis.

We hope we will see you in Dresden in 2016!
