Research Assistant (f/m/d) or Engineer (f/m/d)

A member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers, the HZDR employs about 1,200 people. The Center's focus is on interdisciplinary research in the areas energy, health and matter.

The Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology (HIF) aims to develop innovative technologies for the economy in order to provide and use mineral and metal-bearing raw materials more efficiently and to recycle them in an environmentally friendly way.

Subject to the approval of funds, the Biotechnology Department is offering a position as a Research Assistant (f/m/d) or Engineer (f/m/d) for two years from June 1, 2020.

Tasks:

  • taking part in an application-oriented project for the recovery of metal ions from industrial wastewater in a novel process using biological complexing agents
  • upscaling of the process, planning and installation of pilot plants in an industrial environment

  • aim of the project is the development of a concept for the economic exploitation of the technology, if applicable within the framework of a spin-off

Requirements:

  • completed university degree (master or diploma) in chemical engineering, environmental engineering, process engineering, metallurgy or similar
  • experience in the upscaling of processes, ideally in the field of water treatment
  • experience in cooperation with industrial companies

  • ability to work in a team and interest in an interdisciplinary application-oriented R&D project

  • very good communication skills

  • very good English knowledge in word and writing
