PhD Student (m/f/d)

As member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers, the HZDR employs about 1,400 people. The Center's focus is on interdisciplinary research in the areas energy, health and matter.

The Dresden High Magnetic Field Laboratory (HLD) at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR), a world-leading institution in high magnetic field research and technology and founding member of the European Magnetic Field Laboratory (EMFL), invites applications as a PhD student (f/m/d).

This position will be available in early 2021. The employment contract is limited to three years.

Tasks:

  • The candidate (m/f/d) will be involved in comprehensive studies of quantum functional materials.

  • The candidate (m/f/d) will investigate magnetic properties of quantum-spin systems by means of advanced measurements techniques, such as X-ray magnetic scattering under extreme sample conditions.

Requirements:

  • Master degree in (experimental) physics is required while experience in experimental techniques at low temperatures and high magnetic fields is beneficial.

  • Knowledge on strongly correlated electron physics or quantum materials is advantageous.
