Researcher (PhD student) (f/m/d) Process Engineering, Recycling

As member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers, the HZDR employs about 1,400 people. The Center's focus is on interdisciplinary research in the areas energy, health and matter.

The aim of the Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technologies (HIF) is to develop innovative technologies for the raw materials sector to make available primary and secondary metallic and mineral resources more efficiently and work on solutions to enable a sustainable circular economy.

Researcher (PhD student) (f/m/d) Process Engineering, Recycling

The position will be available from 1st June 2021. The employment contract is limited to three years.

Tasks:

  • Working on a research topic in a large German joint project as part of a research platform in the field of recycling of hydrogen electrolyzers
  • Experimental work on fine particle separation of substance mixtures by heterocoagulation using the example of selective flocculation and flotation
  • Experimental work on material characterization with methods of automated mineralogy and mass balancing in mechanical recycling processes
  • Extended development of technical procedures and methods in the laboratory and up to the mini-pilot scale
  • Modeling of processes, data evaluation and digitization
  • scientific publishing

Requirements:

  • above-average university degree (diploma or master's) in process engineering, environmental technology, chemical engineering, technical chemistry, mechanical engineering, applied natural sciences or related courses of study
  • knowledge of the basic processes of mechanical process engineering
  • knowledge of programming
  • good written and spoken English knowledge
