The institute of Fluid Dynamics is conducting basic and applied research in the fields of thermo-fluid dynamics and magnetohydrodynamics in order to improve the sustainability, the energy efficiency and the safety of industrial processes.
As part of the Institute, the Department of Transport processes at interfaces invites applications as
PhD students (f/m/d) in the field of experimental oxygen research.
The position is expected to be available from 1 June 2021 as part of a third-party funded project of DLR. The employment contract is limited to three years.
Conducting experiments on electrolytic hydrogen gas evolution on micro electrodes
Research on the dynamics of individual as well as interacting bubbles (coalescence) in dependence of process parameters; characterization of the bubble’s shape, position and size using optical methods
Use of PIV-methods for investigation of the near-bubble flow of the electrolyte
Quantification of the impact of electrical and thermocapillary effects on the bubble dynamics
Above-average university degree in mechanical engineering, process engineering, chemistry or physics
Very good knowledge in fluid mechanics, and optical metrology are an advantage
Ability to cooperate on an interdisciplinary basis and to work with international partners
Participation at parabolic flights experiments for carrying out experiments in zero gravity
