Engineer / Scientific Employee (f/m/d) Project CORAERO

As a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers, the HZDR employs about 1,400 people. The Center's focus is on interdisciplinary research in the areas energy, health and matter.

The Institute of Fluid Dynamics is conducting basic and applied research in the fields of thermo-fluid dynamics and magnetohydrodynamics in order to improve the sustainability, the energy efficiency and the safety of industrial processes.

As part of the Institute, the Department of Experimental Thermal Fluid Dynamics invites applications as Engineer / Scientific Employee (f/m/d) Project CORAERO. The position will be available from 1 April 2022. The employment contract is limited to three years.


Within the framework of the joint project CORAERO, which is funded by the Helmholtz Association, we are working on scientific questions concerning the formation of virus-laden aerosols, their thermodynamics and propagation in rooms, as well as strategies and technologies for the prevention of aerosol-borne infections. For this purpose, we are looking for an engineer (f/m/d) with the main focus on "Test facilities and experimental analyses for the dispersion and filtering of virus-containing aerosols in rooms" to work on the following sub-tasks:

  • Participation in the preparation and execution of experiments on aerosol dispersion indoors, in particular qualification and operation of aerosol measuring equipment
  • Set-up of test rigs for investigation and evaluation of novel concepts for air purification
  • Development and testing of aerosol separators
  • Opportunity to gain a doctorate is given


  • Degree (FH or University) preferably in an engineering subject
  • Very good knowledge in CAD, precision engineering, construction and process engineering
  • Knowledge in aerosol measurement technology, thermofluid dynamics and electrical engineering is advantageous
  • Independent work style with high demands on the quality of own work
  • Well-developed social and communication skills
