Measurement of flotation recovery by means of 4D particle tracking velocimetry

The efficiency of the froth flotation process depends on the encounter of particle and bubbles based on the hydrodynamics within the cell and the surface chemistry of the pulp for the film rupture during the attachment process.

Particle motion in the froth

The motion of hydrophobic valuable mineral particles in the froth is decisive for the recovery rate in flotation while the motion of hydrophilic particles strongly influences the grade of the concentrate. Particle motion is investigated in our group by new techniques.

Flotation of non-metallic inclusions in liquid metals

The removal of non-metallic inclusions from liquid metal alloys by means of gas bubbles is important to ensure clean and high-quality structural materials. The FLOTINC project aims for a better understanding of interactions, e.g. collision, attachment and detachment, between bubbles and inclusions.

Carrier flotation

To remove very small particles from suspension an upscaling of their sizes, e.g. by stimulating their attachment to larger carrier particles (e.g. calcite for collecting TiO2 fines) is desirable. Currently, works with magnetic carrier particles are ongoing.
