Top Level Research at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden Rossendorf
The Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf is a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres pursuing new insights that will allow us to maintain and improve all of our lives. That is why the HZDR conducts research in the fields of energy, health and matter in Dresden and at four other locations. Our large-scale facilities are also available to external guests from around the world to help answer the decisive questions of our societies.
Establishing interdisciplinary research, focusing on the future, and thinking outside the box are all paramount to us. That is why we are working closely together with other research insitutions within the Helmholtz Network. We also cooperate with universities and non-university partners to form strategic partnerships like Dresden-concept.
In the fields of Energy
, approximately 500 HZDR scientists are building bridges between physics, chemistry, biology, geoscience and medicine to solve some of the great challenges faced by modern-day industrialized society.
Scientific research equipment of national and international importance is operated at the HZDR and as such the HZDR is coordinating member and partner of numerous collaborations and projects. The scientific facilities are equally available to external guest researchers
from science and economy.
In addition to its headquarters in Dresden, the HZDR has four other research sites: Grenoble/France, Freiberg, Leizpig, and Schenefeld near Hamburg. A secondary site in Dresden is located at the University Hospital Dresden.
Projects for the Future
In order to prepare the Helmholtz center even better for the future three large projects are currently in progress: a Center for Radiopharmaceutical Tumor Research, the project DRESDYN, and the "Helmholtz International Beamline for Extreme Fields - HIBEF" at the European XFEL in Hamburg.
The Helmholtz Association promotes innovative research collaborations between Helmholtz centers, universities and further academic partners at home and abroad. The HZDR is actively involved in the Helmholtz Alliance LIMTECH, several roadmap processes for research infrastructures as well as Helmholtz cross program initiatives. HZDR also hosts the Helmholtz Research School NanoNet.
Strategic Partnerships and Collaborations
To concentrate competencies and share expertise efficiently, the HZDR works closely with national
and international partners
inside and outside the Helmholtz Association. The Center thus is active in many important associations and competence networks.
