CD & DVD Burn Service
Optical media can be created as CD-ROM, DVD and DVD double layer.
To create a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM performe the following steps:
- create a directory below SHARE\Rechenzentrum\CD_DVD that bears your name.
- copy all files into this directory.
The maximum size of data stored on a CD-ROM is 650 MByte. Special formats ("over-burning", > 650 MByte) are possible put there is no guarantee that these media can be read everywhere.
Because meta-information have to be stored for every file in the file system, please expect 640 MByte data space only (the more files, the more space is necessary for meta-information).
DVD-media supports up to 4.7 GByte (DVD-ROM) and up to 8.5 GByte (DVD double layer). - contact A. Geyer (phone: 3300) or e-mail a.geyer@fzd.de as soon as you have transmitted your data
Hints about the creation of data and directory names
The ISO standard 9660 defines for CD-ROMs file and directory names up to 30 symbols.
The names should not consist of spaces or umlauts. You will achieve maximum compatibility, if you only use symbols as "_", "a"..."z" as well as numbers.
Please note that UNIX systems differ in upper and lower case. Use an uniform spelling.
More information about the CD-ROM and the DVD-ROM standard can be found on the wikipedia.
