Bachelor-, Master-, or PhD theses in the field of ion beam analysis

Ion beam analysis (IBA) employs energetic ions for materials and structural analysis. Some of these IBA techniques like Rutherford Backscattering Spectrometry (RBS) are based on experiments done by Ernest Rutherford already in 1909. However, the established techniques have been steadily improved according to the interdisciplinary needs, so for example elemental analyses with a depth resolution in the sub-nanometre range are possible.

Recent IBA techniques as accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) complement our portfolio of highly developled analysis techniques since 2009, so ultra-trace analysis is now available at HZDR.

The larger part of our research projects is being done in national and international co-operation with universities and non-university research insitutions.

In order to support our current new and further developments in the field of IBA, we are looking for students who want to do their Bachelor, Master or PhD thesis (2 to 36 months) in the subjects of physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, computer science, materials science and mechanical engineering, and have a special interest in experimental work.

Please see the German description for finding out about our actual research topics.
