New Guest House Opens

News published on January 16, 2012

After more than a year of construction, the new HZDR guest house will welcome its first guests this Monday.

The new building, which cost 2.5 million euros, has 30 single and double rooms; one of which is wheelchair accessible, a second one is designed for VIP guests. Each room has its own bathroom, some even their own kitchenette. In addition to a communal kitchen and a guest lounge, it is also possible to choose the breakfast buffet.

Since the building is located directly on the HZDR premises, everything is just around the corner at the research center. “Guests conducting measurements at our large scale facilities enjoy top priority in the new guest house,”says Dr. Wolfgang Matz, Head of the HZDR’s Technical Service. “Doctoral candidates and interns are also cordially welcome.”

The old guest facilities will probably be used until mid-year; thereafter, our guests will be housed exclusively in the new building. “Our old guest house no longer meets today’s standards,” explains Wolfgang Matz. The old building was a self-serve facility.

The Department of Administrative Facility Management (FKTK) allocates the rooms on behalf of the HZDR institutes.
