Merry Christmas! HZDR with Shutdown Period till January 3, 2016

Merry Christmas and a Happy New YearNews of December 22, 2015

The particle accelerators are shut down, the lasers have been turned off and all petri dishes and samples are stored safely – the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) goes on shut down period from December 24, 2015 to January 3, 2016.

The HZDR wishes all employees, collaboration partners and friends a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Picture: Laser-plasma physics' most powerful code

A one hundred trillion Watt laser hits a target, producing a high energy plasma made up of quadrillions of electrons and ions. Thanks to the PIConGPU simulation code developed at the HZDR, interactions between the staggeringly high numbers of individual particles can be computed in parallel: ultrafast - scalable - free.
