Nuclear: AREVA Endowed Chair at the TU Dresden extended

News of 13.05.2016

AREVA, the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf and the TU Dresden have extended their cooperation regarding the Endowed Chair of Imaging Techniques in Energy and Process Engineering. The focus of the cooperation is the development of imaging techniques for detailed technical processes such as flow behavior of fluids. The precise analysis of bubble flows, for example, gives key insights for the further development of safety systems in nuclear power plants. Since the nuclear phase-out decision in Germany, AREVA has been focusing more and more on exporting its nuclear products and competencies. Safety upgrades for nuclear power plants play a major role in this context.

“If we want to preserve nuclear competences in Germany over the long-term, we need both a functioning educational and research environment as well as companies which are successful in international markets. Our Endowed Chair is intended to contribute to this”, explained Carsten Haferkamp, Managing Director of AREVA in Germany.

“We are glad to continue with our cooperation. The exchange with practitioners from the industry provides important impulses for our research activities. Furthermore, our students and doctoral candidates make use of the chance to gain practical experience at AREVA through internships, diploma theses or dissertations”, added Professor Dr. Uwe Hampel.

AREVA and the TU Dresden have been involved in a long-standing partnership. Since 2006, cooperation exists regarding qualification of experts in the field of nuclear. The Endowed Chair was founded in 2012. The holder of the professorship, Dr. Uwe Hampel, is also department head at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf.
