Flotation

Flotation-1

Flotation is an important technique in mineral processing, waste water treatment and recycling. This multi-scale process heavily rests on the complex interplay between the physico-chemical processes of the selective attachment of hydrophobized valuable particles onto gas bubbles and hydrodynamics of the flotation cell.

To facilitate an improved quantitative understanding of the particle-bubble attachment, the department performs model experiments for generic flotation configurations in close collaboration between the Helmholtz institute Freiberg (HIF).

Furthermore we are in charge for coordinating the European flotation network Netflot, funded by EIT Raw Materials.
