OptimOre Symposium

The OptimOre Symposium is followed by the Tagung Aufbereitung und Recycling on 8/9 Nov 2017 at HIF.


Securing the supply of tantalum and tungsten

Tantalum and tungsten are important high-technology metals for European economy; however, they are scarce in the EU and have to be imported from abroad, with China and Russia being the main producers of the metals. What is more, the metal contents of the natural ores are depleting, so the processing industry has increasing difficulties beneficiating the valuable elements, using up ever more water and energy.

The OptimOre project aims at increasing the yield of Tungsten and Tantalum ore production while reducing the demand in energy and water. In order to achieve this, the project partners are researching and developing technologies for advanced and flexible control of crushing, milling and separation processes. They are applying new software models, advanced sensing and deeper process physical studies.

The project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program.
