Alumni Engagement in Technology Transfer Processes

Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) are currently exploring opportunities to enhance technology transfer into society.

Are you KIT or HZDR alumni?

Are you currently working in a technology transfer office?

About the project

The purpose of the project is to involve alumni (former students, employees, and researchers of the organizations) in the day-to-day operations of Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs) in scientific research institutions. The project aims to establish an infrastructure of the alumni’s involvement in technology transfer processes, especially in technology screening and in technology commercialization processes.

The joint national project involves a close collaboration between the following German research institutions: The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR). It also involves the Technical University of Dresden (TUD) as a partner that engages in spin-off activities through the organisation dresden|exists. The 3-year-project is being supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Expected results

By activating an alumni network, we want to explore the usability of new innovations that society could greatly profit from, and to explore suitable commercialization strategies through the network. Therefore, a suited technology transfer model between Technology Transfer Offices and Alumni will be proposed to close the existing gaps between research and industry.

Alumni

The idea behind the project

In order to generate more market-based innovations, the HZDR and KIT are working together hand-in-hand in an attempt to close the existing gap between research and industry. We want to involve former students, employees, and researchers of the two organizations in creating new synergies between business and research.

What are the next steps?

Striving for a better implementation model and for a successful pilot project, we want to reach out to business professionals who are familiar with their former research institution and are currently employed by a business company.

We need your ideas and your expertise!

Have you spent your memorable time at the HZDR / KIT and after that, acquired the experience in bringing your academic expertise into the real business world? Are you an HZDR / KIT alumnus who is currently working in a business company and interested to be a part of this project? We ar looking forward to hearing from you! Together, we can lay a foundation for an alumni network that bridges the existing innovation gaps between research and industry.

Please do not hesitate to express your interest by emailing or calling your alma mater (see the contact details below).

We are looking forward to being able to welcome you as a part of something great. Thank you for helping us to bring innovation one step forward!
