The Institute of Radiation Physics invites applications as

PhD Student (m/f) for the Terahertz-ARPES-Project

The position will be available from 01 May 2018. The employment contract is limited to three years.

Tasks:

  • setting up and characterization of a state-of-the-art time- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy experiment
  • utilize a femtosecond laser source to create UV light pulses which are used to characterize the performance of the photoemission setup
  • perform THz streaking experiments with photoelectrons to quantify the interaction between THZ pulses and the nascent photoelectrons
  • design and perform first experiments on THz-driven processes at solid surfaces probed by photoelectron spectroscopy
  • conduct and assist in various experiments on THz-driven processes probed with optical techniques during beam times in our facility

Requirements:

  • distinct university graduation in natural science, preferably physics, physical chemistry, optics and photonics, materials science
  • desirable is hands-on experience in one or more of these subjects: time-resolved pump-probe experiments, femtosecond lasers, terahertz(THz) spectroscopy, nonlinear optics, ultrahigh vacuum, photoelectron spectroscopy, solid state physics
  • strong interest in interdisciplinary scientific work
  • strong interest in tackling complex and long-term tasks
  • good proficiency in the English language
