Physics at Extreme Conditions - II

Summary

This lecture discusses solid density matter at high temperatures, as can be found in the interiors of planets, brown dwarfs and stars as well as during violent meteor impacts or various laboratory applications where condensed matter is heated rapidly to extreme conditions. Following state-of-the-art experimental methods (heated diamond anvil cells, dynamic compression with high-energy lasers, heating and probing with X-ray Free Electron Lasers), the relevant science topics (planetary physics, meteor impacts, material synthesis via extreme temperatures, … ) will briefly be introduced and discussed.
