How innovative ideas arise

Participants of the first “Future Career Program: Innovation” receive their certificates / New faces at the Postdoc Center

From May to July this year, the first “Future Career Program: Innovation” took place at the Postdoc Center HZDR-TUD. Postdocs from both institutions explored the questions of how innovative ideas are created and how entrepreneurial thinking can be applied in science. They also discussed how “design thinking” – a problem-solving method – can be used in their own research and career planning. On July 14, the program concluded with a networking event. The participants received their certificates and had the opportunity to exchange ideas with people from the innovation and start-up scene.

“A lot of emphasis in the course was given to thinking non-conservatively, teamwork and not being afraid of sharing or accepting feedback”, reports one participant. “The design thinking course for me still remains the highlight of the entire workshop but in general all the modules were sufficiently balanced in content to keep the participants curious and involved.”

The “Future Career Program: Innovation” will be held again next year. You can find more information and testimonials here.

New Postdoc Center Staff

In addition, two new employees strengthen the Postdoc Center. As a systemic coach and supervisor, Nicole Körtge supports young scientists in taking their next career step outside of academia. Along with various professional positions in the media industry, the automotive industry and the education sector, she has already been active in international alumni work and international career services for many years. Currently, she is doing her doctorate at the TU Dresden on processes of informal learning in the workplace. “Knowing your own resources, values and interests allows you to plan your next career move in a targeted way”, Körtge explains. “The complex professional experiences of postdocs and their carried skills require specific solutions that can be developed through the offers of the Postdoc Center.”

Janine Göttling supports young scientists who want to pursue a career in academia or science management. After completing a Master’s degree in Management & Organization Studies at the TU Chemnitz, she worked at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg in the areas of student marketing and student advising. From 2017 to 2021, she was research assistant and doctoral candidate at the Chair of Marketing at TU Dresden. “The scientific environment has always been an exciting field of work for me. I am looking forward to new tasks and contact with different personalities”, says Göttling.
