This year’s card design is based on a scientific image taken at the HZDR Institute of Fluid Dynamics. It shows a hydrogen bubble detaching from an electrode during electrolysis. Using a special imaging technique, scientists were able to reveal the surface-tension driven flow at the bubble, originating from hot spots at the electrode.
