In the evening hours around December 3, 2023, the entrance area of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) will be lit up in purple. With this action, the Saxon research facility is once again joining the "Purple Light Up" campaign, which takes place annually to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The aim of this initiative is to raise public awareness for the rights and concerns of people with disabilities. To this end, companies and organizations worldwide use the color "purple" symbolically for a wide range of activities.

"Diversity, equal opportunities and inclusion are central components of our mission statement, the values that we want to live by at the HZDR and to which we have committed ourselves," explains Dr. Frank Bok, Representative of Disabled Employees. "With this in mind, we want to create a barrier-free and equal opportunities center in the long term and we are on the right track, but there are areas where we need to improve. We are currently facing the challenge of increasing the proportion of people with severe disabilities in our workforce. Symbolic campaigns such as 'Purple Light Up' can not only send the right message here, but perhaps also encourage a few people to try applying for a job at the HZDR or to inform us of an existing disability."

The event "Work and career opportunities for persons with disabilities in science and research" offers an excellent opportunity to find out about career opportunities at a research institution. The Alliance of Science Organizations in Germany, of which the HZDR is a member, is organizing this event on Monday, December 4, from 10 am to 3 pm. Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about everyday working life in virtual presentations and to exchange ideas with representatives from the Alliance organizations. The event will be held in German. It is aimed exclusively at people with disabilities who are interested in a career in science and research.
