Research at the Dresden High Magnetic Field Laboratory

The Dresden High Magnetic Field Laboratory (HLD) at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) facilitates modern materials research using the highest magnetic fields. In particular, the physical properties of metallic, semiconducting, superconducting and magnetic materials are investigated. The pulsed magnetic fields at the HLD reach a flux density of up to nearly 100 Tesla. This corresponds to more than one million times the earth's magnetic field. The energy required is provided by the world's largest capacitor bank, which was specially made for the HLD.
