Freiberg HZDR scientist elected to international council for mineral processing

The International Mineral Processing Council (IMPC) is the world's leading organization for representatives from science and industry involved in the processing of raw materials. At its congress in October 2024, the IMPC elected Dr. Martin Rudolph as the sole representative of the EU to the Council. Rudolph heads the Processing Department at the Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology (HIF). The Freiberg processing specialist was also elected Chairman of the Mineral Processing Commission.

The ever-increasing demand means that the processing of raw materials is becoming ever more important. Every two years, experts come together at the International Mineral Processing Congress, which is held at different locations. This is organized by a council to which Dr. Martin Rudolph, a mineral processing scientist from Freiberg, has now been elected. “Being the only representative of the EU to be included in the global mouthpiece of the mineral processing industry is a great honor for me. It is also a great recognition for the HIF and the Freiberg site, which will further increase its global visibility,” says Rudolph. During his four-year term of office, he will primarily be involved in preparing the upcoming congresses. “As I am the only EU representative on the Council, I want to focus on and emphasize European processing interests. I will also strive to do this in my role as Chairman of the Mineral Processing Commission, which deals with the self-image and future of the mineral processing industry,” explains Rudolph.

The IMPC Congress brought also great recognition for another HIF scientist: Dr. Lucas Pereira was honored the Young Author's Award. The jury honors the ten best scientific publications by young raw material processors who were less than 35 years old at the time of the congress. The previous winners have all developed into leading figures in their industry.
