What is the Open Labs Day?
The Open Labs Day is a public event that presents the whole world of science at the Rossendorf research site. Numerous stations invite visitors to watch, discover and participate.
When does the Open Labs Day take place?
The Open Labs Day will take place on Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 10 am to 4:30 pm. The site is open to all visitors from half an hour before to half an hour after the event.
Does the Open Labs Day cost admission?
No, the Open Labs Day does not cost admission.
How can I plan my visit?
On the event website, all program items for the Open Labs Day can be filtered by target group, subject area and format. On the day of the event, printed program booklets with location maps will be available at our information desks.
Is photography and filming permitted on the event site?
Yes, this is permitted for private use. However, the use of drones is prohibited.
Are dogs allowed on the campus?
No, animals must stay at home. Guide dogs only are allowed on the event site.
Are bicycles allowed on campus?
Cyclists from Dresden can reach the event site via the new cycle path on the B6. Bicycle parking spaces are available in front of various buildings. It is also permitted to cycle across the campus.
Can the event site be reached by public transport?
Yes, the research center can be reached by public transport. From Ullersdorfer Platz, several free shuttle buses run at close intervals to the research center via the Hochland-Center Weißig. The regular regional bus line 261 will also be running on this day. Due to limited parking capacity on the Rossendorf research campus, we recommend using public transport.
Is it possible to park near the event site?
Yes, there are designated parking spaces in the immediate vicinity.
- Part of the customer parking lot at the Hochland-Center Weißig is reserved for our guests. The free shuttle buses will take you to the research center in about five minutes.
- A limited number of parking spaces are available on the grounds of the research center. A limited number of parking spaces are available on the grounds of the research center. These can be accessed via the gates at the bus stop “Rossendorf Siedlung B6” and "Forschungszentrum Rossendorf".
We strongly recommend that you use the free shuttle buses or local public transport to get here.
Do I have to register for the Open Labs Day?
No registration is required. For lab tours with limited capacity, registration takes place at the entrance to the respective labs.
Can I park on campus with a disabled badge?
Yes, this is possible. Please have your pass ready at the main entrance and follow the instructions of the security staff.
Is the Dittersbach Gate open?
No, the Dittersbach Gate will remain closed on the Open Labs Day.
Can I bring my own food and drinks on the Open Labs Day?
Yes, this is permitted. For security reasons, larger bags may be checked at the campus entrances.
Are all laboratories freely accessible?
In principle, the laboratories are freely accessible on this day. Special access regulations apply to some laboratories. In so-called control areas, access is only permitted to persons who are at least 16 years old. Pregnant women and nursing mothers are generally not permitted to enter control areas. These laboratories are marked separately in the program. Before entering the laboratory, you will also receive a short briefing from the scientists.
Is it possible to buy food and drinks on campus?
Yes, you are welcome to visit our catering stands with a large selection of food and drinks around the staff restaurant.
Who organizes the Open Labs Day?
The Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) organizes the event together with VKTA - Strahlenschutz, Analytik & Entsorgung Rossendorf e. V. and HZDR Innovation GmbH.
