Yordan Georgiev

All too soon and unexpectedly, our long-time employee Mr. Yordan Georgiev passed away on April 10, 2025 at the age of just 63. We will miss him very much for his humane, amicable and balanced nature and will honor his memory.

Mr. Georgiev worked at the Institute of Ion Beam Physics and Materials Research at the Rossendorf research site as head of the nanofabrication laboratories since 2015. In this role, he facilitated the use of the laboratories for scientists from the center and beyond. At the same time, he expanded the scientific profile of the institute with his activities on electronics based on semiconductor nanowires.

We have come to know and appreciate Mr. Georgiev as a committed, helpful, competent and dependable colleague. With his expertise and experience, he has driven many projects forward and supervised numerous students and doctoral candidates in their work.

With the passing of Mr. Georgiev, we have not only lost a long-standing colleague, he was much more than that: he was a husband, father, friend and a confidently optimistic person. Dedication, diligence and reliability were his hallmarks.

Mr. Georgiev leaves behind a wife and a daughter, to whom we extend our deepest sympathy. We will keep him in honorable memory.
