Since October 2025, Raimon Tolosana-Delgado has been an honorary professor of applied data science at TU Bergakademie Freiberg (TUBAF). Raimon´s teaching focuses on the following: “I will concentrate on the application and, where necessary, the development methods of data analysis procedures required for data sets from various stages of the raw materials value chain.” This interface between data analysis, geology, and engineering sciences is also the focus of his research at the Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology (HIF) at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR), where he has been conducting research since 2012.
With his applied data science expertise, he has collaborated in research groups on a wide variety of topics, such as applied statistics, wastewater treatment, sedimentology, and marine sciences. This offers students practical teaching: "My plan is to bring students into contact with HIF issues and HIF data sets so that they can apply other techniques to them and gain new insights. I would also be very pleased if this led to new topic ideas for master's or doctoral theses, preferably in cooperation with other professorships at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of the TUBAF," says Raimon.
The honorary professorship completes Raimon Tolosana-Delgado's academic career, which began in 2002 with a degree in engineering geology in Spain. He also holds a master's degree in environmental physics and technology and received his doctorate in environmental sciences in 2004. His postdoctoral thesis focused on mathematical geology.
