Science communication competition on May 6 in Dresden
Three minutes, one stage, one topic: On May 6, 2026, the FameLab regional heat returns to Dresden, with participation from the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR). Early-career scientists present their research topics in an engaging and accessible way – without the use of slides or technical presentations.

The competition challenges participants to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely, inspiring a broad audience with science. The international stage format is widely regarded as a springboard for careers in research, media, and science communication.
Admission is free. Tickets must be reserved in advance.

About FameLab
In addition to Dresden, FameLab Germany regional heats will take place in Bielefeld, Bremerhaven, Karlsruhe, and Regensburg in 2026. Two participants from each location will qualify for the national final in Bielefeld.
Eligible to participate are Master’s students, doctoral candidates, and early-career researchers aged 21 and over. Topics are open, ranging from life and social sciences to engineering and medicine, as well as interdisciplinary approaches. Creative props are allowed, while presentation tools such as PowerPoint are not.
Winners of the regional heats receive prize money and professional coaching from the National Institute for Science Communication (NaWik). The winner of the national final will represent Germany at the international FameLab competition.
The Dresden regional heat is organized by DRESDEN-concept in cooperation with the Dresden Convention Service, a division of Dresden Marketing GmbH. Together, the partners aim to promote vibrant science communication and strengthen collaboration among research institutions in the region.
