Bachelor of Science - Radiation Technology (f/m/d) Strahlentechnik

Would you like to learn a versatile, future-oriented profession that is made up of various specialist areas such as physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, process engineering and radiation medicine? Then apply here for vocational training in radiation technology (B.Sc.)!

This is what our former dual student Claudia has to say:

"The great thing about my dual study program in radiation technology is the challenges I face in my day-to-day work and studies. The subject area is so large and complex that you really learn something new every day.

At the HZDR, there are lots of specialists who are happy to answer any questions you have on a wide range of topics. I was also able to get to know my field of work from different perspectives through cooperation with other companies.

If you already find physics exciting, want to learn more about radioactivity and want to put what you've learned into practice, then this is the right place for you!"

Training contents

  • accompanying activities and processes in the context of operational radiation protection (measuring, monitoring,
  • checking, consulting)
  • preparing legally compliant regulations (e.g.: radiation protection instructions, approval documents)
  • supervising measurement technology, recording and evaluating results
  • carrying out shielding calculations with the help of a PC
  • declaring radioactive residues and waste
  • expertly preparing and supervising the operation of an ion accelerator

Requirements

  • good to very good performance in the natural sciences and English
  • motivation
  • independent, careful and accurate way of working
  • good communication and explanation skills
  • willingness to handle (radioactive) hazardous substances

School leaving certificate

  • A-levels or vocational A-levels in the field of technology

Berufsakademie Sachsen

  • block training based on the dual study system, combines practical training with the teaching and application of scientific knowledge and methods
  • the university is the Berufsakademie Sachsen - Staatliche Studienakademie Riesa
  • practical training partners are the HZDR as well as the TU Dresden and the VKTA Rossendorf
  • completion of your Bachelor's thesis in the sixth semester

Duration of dual study

  • 3 years

Leading trainers

  • Sven Kowe
  • Isabel Kösterke

Typical areas of employment after studying

  • industrial sectors of
    • power generation
    • dismantling of nuclear facilities
  • public authorities
  • technical inspection associations
  • engineering companies working in the fields of planning, waste disposal and the environment
  • areas of medical, teaching and research facilities
    • clinics
    • universities
    • research centers

After completing your studies, you will usually take up an engineering job; you will not be working in your own scientific field with the Bachelor of Science degree.
