Duong Huu HoangFor presenting his results obtained by Mineral Liberation Analysis, Duong Huu Hoang, scientific assistant at TU Bergakademie Freiberg and HIF, was awarded the first prize of the “Metallurgy, Physical and Chemical Technologies of Hydrocarbons Treatment” section at the Annual Conference for Young Researchers in Saint Petersburg.

The conference was held at Saint Petersburg Mining University from 19 until 21 April 2017 covering nine different sections concerned with the entire field of mining from mineral exploration and assessment to metallurgy and environmental protection. All in all, 279 presentations were given by about 600 authors from 19 countries.

Duong Huu Hoang is pursuing his PhD at the Institute of Mechanical Process Engineering and Mineral Processing of the Bergakademie and at HIF’s Division of Processing. He is applying Mineral Liberation Analysis in the processing of carbonaceous sedimentary apatite ores. His focus is on the relationship between mineralogical characterization and the parameters relevant to mineral processing (i.e. the free surface area of the mineral of interest and its association with other gangue phases) as well as flotation performance for different particle size fractions.
