PhD Student (f/m/d) Modelling and experimental validation of the operating behaviour of sCO2 power processes in thermal energy storage systems

The Institute of Fluid Dynamics is conducting basic and applied research in the fields of thermo-fluid dynamics and magnetohydrodynamics in order to improve the sustainability, the energy efficiency and the safety of industrial processes.

The Group Thermal energy technology is looking for a PhD Student (f/m/d) Modelling and experimental validation of the operating behaviour of sCO2 power processes in thermal energy storage systems. 

Your tasks

  • Analysing and evaluating different control strategies
  • Modelling of different sCO2 power cycles for the reconversion of energy from a thermal energy storage
  • Testing of defined operating procedures and validation of the models at the sCO2 test plant CARBOSOLA
  • Identification of optimal control strategies with regard to plant operation, plant dynamics and costs as well as derivation of numerical or empirical descriptions

Your profile

  • Completed university studies (Master/Diploma) in the field of process engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or comparable fields
  • Knowledge in thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer phenomena
  • Willingness to work on numerical and experimental problems
  • Very good team work and communication skills
  • Very good English language skills (written and spoken)
