nELBE fission chamber manual

To get the nELBE fission chambers (FC) running perform the following steps:

  1. check P10 bottle pressure
    • go to bottle rack outside of ELBE building using the emergency exit door opposite to the stairway to nELBE electronics hut (542/250)
    • if nessecary turn bottle selection valve
    • pressure in gas pipe to cave should be approx. 10 bar
  2. connect tubes and leave the bypasses before gas supply and fission chamber (FC) open
  3. swith on the gas supply crate
  4. open P10 valve at the wall to get a pressure of 200 mbar (500 mbar max.)
  5. open needle valve at the wall
  6. open FC gas outlet valve
  7. open FC gas inlet valve
  8. close bypass before gas supply crate
  9. on FWK109 (electronics hut 542/250):
    1. double click FlowDDE
      • Communication -> Open Communication
    2. double click FlowView
      • click 2x new to open a window for each element
      • set channels to 1 (EL-Press), 2 (EL-Flow) and 3 (Control)
      • set flow to 20 ml/min
  10. close FC bypass -> pressure should rise (100 % = 200 mbar)
  11. on FWK109
    1. double click FlowPlot
      1. configure plot:
        • line 1 -> channel 1, para 8 (Measure)
        • line 2 -> channel 2, para 9 (Setpoint)
        • line 3 -> channel 2, para 8 (Measure)
        • do not change the poll time!
        • click OK
      2. configure acquisition
        • Extra -> Option
          • visible history 1800 s
          • total history 3600000 s
          • data acquisition 1000 ms
          • memorize file location
      3. set scale to 25 % max.
      4. click Start
  12. flush FC by setting flow to 200 ml/min for about 30 min
  13. set flow to 20 ml/min
  14. switch on HV
    • UFC: 150 V
    • PuFC: 300 V
