Neutron particle-hole states in the doubly magic nucleus 208Pb
were investigated using a Euroball Cluster detector and five usual HPGe
detectors at the Osiris cube spectrometer in Cologne. 126 gamma-ray transitions
with energies up to 7.2 MeV could be detected, 14 of those for the first
time. The states were excited with the 208Pb (p,p'gamma)208Pb
reaction via isobaric analogue resonances in 209Bi at Ep=16.5,
17, 17.45, 17.5 and 18.5 MeV and through the subcoulomb 207Pb(d,pgamma)208Pb
reaction at Ed=10 MeV. For most of the excited states assignments
for the particle and/or the hole component of the configuration could be
made, 22 of these are new.
