RUB subproject:

Experimental Investigations of Organic Substitute Systems on Fluid Dynamics of High-Performance Valve Trays Based on a Miniature Measuring System

A miniaturized test rig for investigations of fluid dynamic parameters of gassed single valves and valve groups is being developed at Ruhr-Universität Bochum. Initially, measurements with a substitute system for organic liquids are carried out in a rectangular facility. Measurements of the local flow field, Weeping, Entrainment and Flooding allow the description of the hydraulic conditions on the tray. These allow conclusions to be drawn about the transferability of the tools and methods developed in this project to other fluid systems.

In addition, investigations with the water/air system are carried out. In close cooperation with TU München and Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf, new insights about geometric dependencies of the flow over high-performance trays are gained. Furthermore, statements can also be made regarding the interaction between valves. This knowledge is particularly advantageous with regard to the development of suitable approaches for design of high-performance valve trays and especially for the arrangement of push valves.
