The Geoanalysis 2022 conference took place in Freiberg from 6th to 12th August, organized by the Helmholtz-Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology (HIF), TU Bergakademie Freiberg (TUBAF) and Eurofins Umwelt Ost GmbH Freiberg. Around 130 participants, speakers, poster presenters and exhibitors from from all continents were hosted by the beautiful facilities of the Schloßplatzquartier of the TUBAF. Inviting organization was the International Association of Geoanalysts (IAG).
The conference started with workshops on commercial geoanalysis, portable analytical devices, automated mineralogy, and quality assurance. The four days of the conference were filled with presentations and posters, both in attendance and online, and essentially covered the latest methodological and instrumental developments in the chemical and mineralogical analysis of geomaterials. The topics were spanning from handheld devices up to large scientific infrastructure facilities like SIMS and synchrotrons, from laser to electron beam based methods. 18 exhibitors presented their newest products and were intergral part of the scientific discussion. A special issue in Geostandards and Geoanalytical Research is planned.
The final excursions covered the large-scale facilities of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) but also included a cultural programme in Dresden and surroundings. The scientific excursions included the recent exploration projects in the Erzgebirge: Li-exploration in Altenberg and Silver prospections in the Freiberg district.
