Teilchenbeschleuniger - Grundlagen
Guratzsch, H.
Abstract

Applying ANSYS/Multiphysics to In-Vessel and Ex-Vessel Core Melt Phenomena
Willschütz, H.-G.
Abstract
For future nuclear power plants it is demanded that there are no consequences for the environment and the population even in the closest vicinity of the plant during and after every possible accident scenario. This includes the hypothetical scenario of a severe accident with subsequent core meltdown, corium relocation and formation of a melt pool with internal heat sources in the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) lower head (LH). Some reactor concepts have the aim to arrest the melt in the lower head removing the decay heat by external water flooding. In other concepts a dry reactor pit is designed and after the vessel failure a core catcher shall assure the long term stabilization of the corium within the containment.
For both strategies investigations on the transient behaviour of the RPV or of the core catcher are necessary. Two kinds of vessel failure can be distinguished: thermal and structural failure. Thermal failure means that the heat flux through the vessel wall becomes so high that the steel solidus temperature at any position of the vessel outside is exceeded. Structural failure means that a combination of thermal and mechanical loads causes the failure, e. g. the wall thickness of the vessel is reduced by thermal ablation and at the same time the internal pressure and the gravitational forces induce creeping with subsequent creep failure.
Different melt configurations can be assumed. They can be distinguished by the melt masses released into the LH, the melt composition, the segregation behaviour of the oxidic and the metallic component, and the density and the distribution of the internal heat sources. One of the most dangerous accident scenarios for a pressurized water reactor (PWR) assumes the relocation of a melt mass in the range of 200 Mg or more which is segregated into some 150 Mg of the heavier oxidic component at the bottom and some 50 Mg of a metallic melt above. The oxidic melt is surrounded by an oxidic crust due to the high solidification temperature of the oxide. The internal heat sources are mainly in the oxidic component, but due to the geometric configuration and the different fluid properties the highest heat fluxes and the major thermal ablation is expected between the metallic layer and the vessel wall. This phenomenon is called focussing effect.
An in-vessel-scenario of a PWR has been assumed and modelled with ANSYS/ Multiphysics. Using this Finite Element (FE) code package it is possible to simulate the velocity and temperature field for a fluid region and the corresponding temperature field within the surrounding solid structures. This thermo-fluiddynamic calculation can be coupled with a mechanical FE-model of the solid structures to analyse the stress and possible creeping forced by the mechanical and thermal loads. In this presentation, the recent modelling approach and the results obtained with the code ANSYS/Multiphysics are discussed. An outlook on the further development is given.

Ion beam sensitizing of titanium surfaces to hydroxyapatite formation
Pham, M. T.; Matz, W.; Reuther, H.; Richter, E.; Steiner, G.; Oswald, S.
Abstract
CaO and P2O5 containing Ti surfaces were prepared and examined for their bioactivity. The preparation involved the incorporation of Ca and P into Ti by ion implantation to a total dose of up to 8 x 1017 ions/cm² with a 1.7 Ca/P ratio and a subsequent oxidation at 500 °C in O2 for 40 min. The model surfaces were examined for their reactivity toward hydroxyapatite formation by microscopically recording the mineralization in a simulated body fluid. The ion implantation modified surfaces were shown to exhibit enhanced mineralization by inducing heterogeneous nucleation, growth, and proliferation of hydroxyapatite, relative to a control sample of pure Ti. The surface induced reactivity was shown to relate to the enhanced provision of the ionic mineral components Ca2+ and HPO42- directly supplied from the surface and the substrate-mediated nucleation by hydroxylated surface TiO2.

Roles of implantation parameters on the formation of expanded austenite
Parascandola, S.; Betzl, M.; Richter, E.; Möller, W.
Abstract
High-current ion implantation of nitrogen into austenitic stainless steel (AISI 316Ti) at temperatures about 400°C results in the formation of a surface layer, called expanded austenite. A tensor of nitrogen ion energies (1.2, 2.0 and 2.8 keV), ion fluxes (0.2 and 1.0 mA/cm2) and times (2, 10 and 40 min.) has been selected to investigate the roles of the implantation parameters: ion energy, current density and treatment time. In addition, a temperature series has been performed over the range from 280°C to 480°C at fixed processing conditions of 1.2 keV, 0.5 mA/cm2 and 20 min. Nitrogen content and layer thickness have been determined by nuclear reaction analysis. Structural and micromechanical analyses have been performed by X-ray diffraction and microhardness measurements.

Stickstoffdiffusion in austenitischem Edelstahl unter Hochstrom-Ionenimplantation
Parascandola, S.; Günzel, R.; Grötzschel, R.; Richter, E.; Möller, W.
Abstract

Abstract
At the Rossendorf nuclear microprobe facility, a beam of protons with MeV energy was used to analyse ancient human bones of the Merowingian period (6-8th
century AD), Emitted X-rays were detected to determine the elemental composition of the bones and to estimate the influence of the burial environment on the
elemental content of the skeletons, In cross sections of human femora, a different behaviour of the radial distributions of the main and trace elements like P, Ca, Mn,
Fe, Zn, Br, and Sr was observed using lateral-resolved mu PIXE. This result indicates post mortem mineral exchange processes and diagenetic alteration during
burial of bone tissue in soil.

Finite element-based vibration analyses of WWER-440 type reactors
Altstadt, E.; Weiss, F.-P.
Abstract
To support the early detection of mechanical component faults at WWER-440 reactors a finite-element-model describing the mechanical vibrations of the whole primary circuit was established. A special element was developed to describe the fluid-structure interaction in the downcomer. It is based on an approximated analytical 2D-solution of the coupled system of 3D fluid equations and the structural equations of motions.
The vibration modes up to 30 Hz were calculated. It is shown that the fluid-structure interaction strongly influences those modes with a relative displacement between reactor pressure vessel and core barrel.
Moreover, by means of the model the shift of eigenfrequencies due to the degradation or to the failure of internal clamping and spring elements was investigated. Comparing the frequency spectra of the normal and the faulty structure, one could prove that a recognition of such degradations and failures even inside the reactor pressure vessel is possible by pure excore vibration measurements. The results hint at the
opportunity to establish a monitoring procedure that is capable of distinguishing between guide lug and spring pipe failures, because these two types of failures are mapped in different and well separated frequency regions. Moreover, it seems that it is possible to detect these failures by pure excore vibration measurements, what is important since incore vibration measurements are difficultly to be implemented over longer time periods. When measuring the displacements for x and y-direction even the localization of the failed guide lug might become achievable.

Finite-element based vibration analyses of WWER-440 type reactors
Altstadt, E.; Weiss, F.-P.
Abstract
A finite-element-model describing the mechanical vibrations of the whole WWER-440 primary circuit was established to support the early detection of mechanical component faults. A special fluid-structure module was developed to consider the reaction forces of the fluid in the downcomer upon the moving core barrel and the rector pressure vessel. This fluid-structure interaction module is based on an approximated analytical 2D-solution of the coupled system of 3D fluid equations and the structural equations of motions. By means of the vibration model all igenfrequencies up to 30 Hz and the corresponding mode shapes were calculated. It is shown that the fluid-structure interaction strongly influences those modes that lead to a relative displacement between reactor pressure vessel and core barrel. Moreover, by means of the model the shift of eigenfrequencies due to the degradation or to the failure of internal clamping and spring elements was investigated. Comparing the frequency spectra of the normal and the faulty structure, it could be proved that a recognition of such degradations and failures even inside the reactor pressure vessel is possible by pure excore vibration measurements.

Finite element analysis of a BWR feed water distributor under extreme transient pressure load
Altstadt, E.; Ohlmeyer, H.; Otremba, F.; Weiss, F.-P.
Abstract
During a hypothetical break of a BWR feed water line, the feed water distributor (FWD) inside the RPV is subjected to a high pressure load for a short time (10 ms). Because of the sudden coolant release from the inner volume of the FWD there is a pressure difference between the inner and outer surface. It is conservatively assumed that the pressure difference nearly can reach the operating pressure for a few milliseconds. The ring line of the feed water distributor is modelled with shell and volume elements capable of being used for large strain analyses with elastic-plastic material behaviour. It is demonstrated by non-linear static calculations (without consideration of the inertia of the material) that a buckling instability occurs at about 60% of the maximum pressure load. The arc-length method is used for the numerical solution to overcome this point of instability. To evaluate the influence of the dynamics of the process a non-linear transient analysis is done showing that the maximum strain occurs with a time delay to the pressure peak. The maximum plastic strain differs only nsignificantly between static and transient solution. Inspite of the large strains the mechanical integrity is maintained during the hypothetical event.

Tritium depth profiling in carbon samples from fusion experiments
Friedrich, M.; Pilz, W.; Sun, G.; Behrisch, R.; Garcia-Rosales, C.; Bekris, N.; Penzhorn, R.-D.
Abstract
Tritium depth profiling measurements by accelerator mass spectrometry have been performed at the facility installed at the Rossendorf 3 MV Tandetron. Hydrogen and deuterium profiles are measured with the Faraday cup between the injection magnet and the accelerator, while the tritium is counted after the accelerator with semiconductor detectors. Depth profiles have been measured for carbon samples which had been exposed to the D,D plasma at the first wall of the Garching fusion experiment ASDEX-Upgrade and from the European fusion experiment JET, Culham/UK, which had been operated part time with a D,T plasma. The tritium contents of the samples from JET were up to six orders higher compared to the samples from ASDEX-Upgrade. The problem of the detector overloading during measurements of samples with a medium tritium content has been solved by installation of a scanning system in the AMS beamline, which enables defined scanning of the tritium beam over an aperture in front of the detector. The tritium beam current from samples with high tritium content has been measured directly in the Faraday cup before the accelerator. A dedicated AMS facility with an air-insulated 100 kV tandem accelerator is under construction.
