The HZDR established the HZDR Innovation Fund in 2016 based on the model of other Helmholtz centers. The purpose of the internal fund - which is financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the HZDR itself - is to provide support for validation and spin-off projects. Its annual allocation is EUR 400,000.

A total of 33 project financed by the fund since 2016

A total of 33 innovation projects have been funded by the HZDR Innovation Fund since 2016, including 14 that started again in 2019. The fund provided around 300,000 euros in 2019. The total volume of innovation projects funded by the fund at HZDR in 2019, taking into account co-financing from other third-party funds, was over EUR 1.2 million. Of the 14 projects of the HZDR Innovation Fund that were completed by the end of 2019, seven have so far been successfully implemented.
